"Which large and talented racehorse will emerges victorious in the high-stakes £100,000 handicap competition?"
Liam Headd reports on an upcoming race, where two contenders, Topteam and Tenability, will be vying for victory in a 1m4f three-year-old handicap event.
Topteam, described as a tough customer by Alastair Donald, will be running on soft ground for the first time in this race. The horse, representing King Power, has been in fine form and Alastair believes Topteam can handle the softer ground. Topteam finished a length and a half behind Tenability in their previous encounter and will be aiming to turn the tables.
Tenability, trained by William Haggas, has a strong record over this course and distance, with a 2-2 win-loss ratio. The horse received a 4lb rise in his rating, which his connections believe is manageable. Tenability's last win came at the Shergar Cup last month, where he triumphed in a handicap race. His latest performance was impressive, winning by a neck, suggesting he may have been value for more.
Tenability's main challenge will be the soft ground, but his pedigree offers some hope. He is by Frankel out of a Pivotal mare, suggesting he may handle the conditions.
Ralph Beckett, Tenability's trainer, is stepping up Push The Limit to a mile and a half for the upcoming race. Push The Limit made a successful handicap debut at Glorious Goodwood, despite receiving a hefty bump at the top of the straight. The horse's Racing Post Rating of 104 suggests a 7lb rise to a mark of 98 isn't beyond him.
Daiquiri Bay, trained by Alan King, will also be in the mix. The horse finished third over further in the Melrose last time and Alan believes dropping Daiquiri Bay back in trip will be helpful for his performance in the upcoming race. Rossa Ryan, Daiquiri Bay's jockey, shares this sentiment, feeling that the change in distance will benefit the horse. Daiquiri Bay seems to have come out of his last run at York well, according to Alan King.
Rogue Millions, a winner on heavy ground as a juvenile, could also pose a threat. James Owen, Rogue Millions' trainer, believes the horse ran well at Hamilton in a slowly run race and is looking forward to a bit of cut in the ground. Rogue Millions romped home by four lengths in soft ground on his penultimate start, adding to his potential as a formidable competitor.
Finally, Nightwalker, who has been highly tried, could find this handicap debut more suitable. The race promises to be an exciting contest, with each horse bringing its unique strengths and weaknesses to the table. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling event.
