Wings Suffer 91-77 Defeat at the Hands of Sparks; Playoff Ambitions Stay Alive for Sparks
Los Angeles Sparks Secure Victory over Dallas Wings, Postseason Hopes Hinge on Seattle
The Los Angeles Sparks secured a hard-fought 91-77 victory over the Dallas Wings on Sunday, but their postseason hopes remain uncertain. The Sparks' last two regular-season games will determine their fate, with their next encounter scheduled against Phoenix on Tuesday and their final home game against Las Vegas.
In the game against Dallas, Julie Allemand scored a career-high 21 points, while Rickea Jackson and Kelsey Plum contributed 11 points each. Rae Burrell sparked a 16-0 run to open the fourth quarter, propelling the Sparks to a commanding lead.
However, the Dallas Wings refused to back down, with Myisha Hines-Allen scoring 15 points and grabbing a season-high 13 rebounds. Hines-Allen also dished out seven assists, and her corner 3-pointer gave Dallas a brief 55-54 lead early in the third quarter.
Unfortunately for the Wings, Arike Ogunbowale was sidelined due to a knee injury, missing her 11th consecutive game. Dallas hit no 3-pointers in the game, and their efforts were not enough to overcome the Sparks' hot shooting from beyond the arc, as Los Angeles hit 10 3-pointers in the match.
Azurá Stevens added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Sparks, who finished the game with 12 steals. Allemand's 3-pointer just before the buzzer in the third quarter gave the Sparks a crucial two-point lead, which they managed to hold onto for the remainder of the game.
Meanwhile, the result of Seattle's game against Golden State on Tuesday night will determine if the Los Angeles Sparks make the postseason. If Seattle loses, the Sparks will clinch a playoff spot. However, if Seattle wins, the Sparks will need to win their last two regular-season games to secure a place in the postseason.
On Thursday evening, the Seattle Storm will face the Dallas Wings in their last regular-season game. The Sparks will then travel to Phoenix before hosting Las Vegas in their final home game of the season. The stakes are high, and the Sparks will be eager to secure their spot in the postseason.
