Witness the spectacle: San Diego State facing off against WSU Cougars in their home game

San Diego State and Washington State are set to square off in an exciting college football matchup, with both teams looking to make a strong start to their seasons.

In San Diego State's season-opener, sixteen players caught passes, with Jacob Bostick, Jordan Napier, and Donovan Brown as the top targets. Notably, Jaxon Potter won the starting QB job and had a impressive outing, completing 23-of-30 passes for one touchdown. Jayden Denegal, a transfer from Michigan, also made his debut for San Diego State, completing 13-of-25 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown.

The Aztecs' offense showed its versatility, piling up 228 rushing yards for four touchdowns. Lucky Sutton led the ground game, generating 100 rushing yards on 23 carries. The offensive line, one of the most experienced in the country, gave up only three pressures.

On the other side, Washington State's offense will need to improve, particularly in reducing penalties. The Cougars picked up no penalties in the fourth quarter of their last game. The performance of their offensive line will be crucial in determining if quarterback Jayden Denegal has time to find his favorite targets downfield, such as Jacob Bostick and Jordan Napier.

The Aztecs' defense is expected to focus on forcing Denegal to make plays with his feet, where he's least comfortable. Max Baloun, Bryson Lamb, Raam Stevenson, and Buddha Peleti are key members of Washington State's defensive line. The Cougars could also look for more involvement from tight ends Ademola Faleye and Trey Leckner in the passing game.

It's worth noting that Devin Ellison, a wide receiver for San Diego State, is expected to miss a second straight game due to a heel injury.

The outcome of Saturday's game may depend on whether WSU's offense can defang SDSU's defense. The Aztecs' defense boasts a combined 139 games and 99 starts among its offensive line, making it a formidable unit. Joe Borjon, a member of San Diego State's offensive line, posted a Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grade of 88.8 in their season-opener, tied for fifth-best nationally among qualified linemen.

As both teams prepare for this highly anticipated matchup, fans are eager to see how the action unfolds on the field.
