Woman arrested in Georgia for physically harming grandson during live stream on TikTok
In Kutaisi, Georgia, a grandmother has been detained on charges of alleged violence against her minor family member. The incident, which took place during a TikTok live video, was initially reported on social media and later picked up by local media on Monday.
The Interior Ministry of Georgia launched an investigation into the case, but no further details about the outcome have been released. The video, which is not visible to the public, shows the grandmother feeding a child under the age of two and striking the child's hand when he attempted to reach for a plate. The child is heard crying as a result of the grandmother's actions.
Beka Kvachantiradze, a Facebook user, uploaded the video and reported the case to the police. He provided more information about the incident at the police station on Monday, stating that the child later grabbed the plate and threw it, prompting the grandmother to become more aggressive and strike the child's hand again.
The grandmother admitted to hitting her grandchild to the child's mother and displayed aggressive behavior towards viewers who criticized her treatment of the child. She also used offensive language towards a viewer who criticized her actions. The woman was detained at five in the morning and is currently in pretrial detention.
It is not clear who uploaded the video of the incident on Facebook or who reported it to the police. The identities and ages of the grandmother and the child remain undisclosed. Beka Kvachantiradze was summoned to the police for his role in reporting the incident. The woman refused to let her grandchild leave the room during the TikTok live.
