Workers suffer severe electric shocks on the job

In a tragic incident that occurred on Monday, a 56-year-old construction worker was injured while working at a height of 10 meters at the Sechshelden halt in the Lahn-Dill district. The accident took place on the railway line between Siegen and Gießen, near Haiger in Central Hesse.

The worker was attempting to throw a measuring tape when he inadvertently touched an overhead line carrying 15,000 volts of high voltage. This unfortunate contact resulted in an electric shock, necessitating immediate medical attention.

The construction worker was transported to a specialist hospital in Duisburg by rescue helicopter. The incident caused delays in train traffic throughout the day, with the affected track remaining closed until late in the evening.

The Federal Police have reported the workplace accident and issued a warning about the danger of being near live overhead lines. They emphasised that electricity can jump through the air from these lines, posing a significant risk.

Investigators are currently looking into the details of the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident. The search results do not contain specific information about the identity of the employee involved or the specialized clinic to which he was transported.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with working near live overhead lines. It is crucial for all workers to exercise extreme caution and adhere to safety protocols when working in such environments. The Federal Police urge everyone to stay clear of live overhead lines to avoid any potential accidents.
