World Championship 2025 Recap: PV Sindhu Overtakes World Rank 2; Dhruv-Tanisha, Satwik-Chirag Advance to Quarterfinals
Indian Shuttlers Shine at World Championships
In an exciting turn of events at the World Championships, Indian shuttlers have been making waves. Two-time Olympic champion P.V. Sindhu and the top doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have advanced to the quarterfinals.
Sindhu, currently ranked 15th, secured a significant victory against world number 2 Wang Zhi Yi of China with a score of 21-19, 21-15. This win puts Sindhu just one victory away from securing a record-equalling sixth World Championships medal. Interestingly, Sindhu leads the head-to-head record against Wang Zhi Yi 3-2.
In the opening game of her match against Wang Zhi Yi, Sindhu had a 11-6 lead at the mid-game interval. The second game saw another 11-6 cushion for Sindhu at the break. These strong starts indicate Sindhu's dominance over her opponent.
Sindhu's next opponent in the quarterfinals will be world number 9 Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia. It's worth noting that Wardani had previously beaten Sindhu at the Sudirman Cup earlier this year. However, Sindhu's impressive form this tournament suggests a close match.
Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the quarterfinals by beating China's Liang Wei Kang and Wang Chang. This win marks their first victory against the Chinese pair after four successive losses. The Indian duo came from a game down to beat the reigning Asian champions, showcasing their resilience and determination.
Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto have also made it to the quarterfinals after a 63-minute battle against the Hong Kong pair. The Indian mixed doubles pair had early exits at the Orleans Masters and All England Championships following their good start to the year. However, they stormed into the quarterfinals after their win at the World Championships.
Tanisha Crasto attributed their victory to better preparation and a determined fightback. Dhruv Kapila mentioned that they kept supporting each other and came prepared well for the tournament, unlike their previous tournaments where they struggled mentally after losing the first game.
Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto have a good record against Chinese shuttlers at the World Championships, which Sindhu further extends with her impressive win against Wang Zhi Yi.
The duo will face the world number 5 pairing Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet in the quarterfinals. This match promises to be an exciting one, given the form of both pairs.
As the World Championships continue, Indian shuttlers are proving their mettle, creating a buzz and raising expectations for the upcoming matches.
