World combat food shortage in Trenton city and globally, initiated by Trenton Plates

In the heart of Trenton, New Jersey, the annual meal-packaging event, Trenton Plates, The World Takes, is set to return on September 24 at the Cure Arena. This community-driven initiative, now in its second year, aims to gather over 1,500 volunteers and collect more food than last year to support local organizations.

The roots of Trenton Plates, The World Takes can be traced back to a middle school mission trip experience. Cross Community Inc. and Rise Against Hunger, the event's organisers, have been working together since 2021 to combat hunger on a global scale.

Last year, more than 800 volunteers gathered to pack over 120,000 meals. These meals were fortified with 20 essential vitamins and nutrients and helped feed people impacted by hunger in the Philippines and South Sudan. The event far exceeded expectations, with over 1,300 children receiving an entire year's worth of meals in school feeding programs.

This year, organisers aim to surpass last year's numbers, with a goal to serve more than 285,000 meals. Rise Against Hunger, a global organisation that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world's most vulnerable, will once again provide an event facilitator, hunger education, and necessary ingredients.

Jasmine Ross, executive director of Cross Community, is optimistic about this year's event. She hopes to bring out 1,500 people and gather way over the 2,000 pounds of food collected for local organisations last year. Local organisations such as the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and Arm and Arm benefited from the food collected at last year's event.

The event is supported by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and promises a lively atmosphere including music and community participation. Volunteers worked in three-hour shifts, with a DJ spinning music throughout the day. Participants can expect high energy, good music, and a great time at this year's event.

Information or sign-up to volunteer for this year's Trenton Plates, The World Takes event is available online. The website offers fact-based, in-depth journalism and relies on financial support from readers. As the fight against hunger continues, the community's support is crucial.

It's important to remember that approximately 673 million people worldwide face hunger. Rise Against Hunger partners with local leaders to implement sustainable agriculture and income-generating projects, aiming to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.

Trenton Plates, The World Takes is not just about packing meals; it's about creating a community that cares, a community that comes together to make a difference. It's about showing that even in the face of global challenges, we can come together to make a positive impact.

Join us on September 24 at the Cure Arena in Trenton, and be a part of the solution to food insecurity. Together, we can make a difference.
