In the lead-up to Germany's World Cup qualifiers, national coach Julian Nagelsmann has been tight-lipped about his plans, hinting at both a three-man and four-man defence, and a fluid system on the right flank.

Nagelsmann, who has been in the job for three years, is no longer a newcomer, having surpassed the tenure of his predecessor Hansi Flick and summer fairy-tale coach Jürgen Klinsmann. His current favorite word is "dominance," and he aims to demonstrate this in the six games of the short qualifying round.

Captain Joshua Kimmich, who was sent onto the pitch as the leader for the final training session before the start of the qualifiers, is being moved from his position as right-back to defensive midfield. Angelo Stiller, Leon Goretzka, or even both could be paired with Kimmich in the center. Julian Nagelsmann recently announced Robert Andrich as a potential replacement for Kimmich in the midfield, with the DFB-listed defender primarily a central midfielder.

However, Nagelsmann is unsure if he trusts Nnamdi Collins, a potential defensively-oriented right-back from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the defensive role yet. A fluid system with Collins on the right could be a possibility, according to Nagelsmann.

The German team's performance in their previous games has left much to be desired, with almost half of the team's secure or potential starting eleven candidates missing for the entire qualification round. Nagelsmann wants his team to leave no doubts within the games and not give away victories to potential title rivals.

Rudi Völler, an animated former soccer player, spoke at the edge of the training pitch in Herzogenaurach. Völler emphasised the importance of qualifying for the tournament, stating that everything changes at a tournament. Serge Gnabry echoed this sentiment, describing the upcoming task as qualifying for the tournament.

Nagelsmann is keen to prove that winning the World Cup is a realistic and not an arrogant goal. He held a strategy and tactics meeting with his closest confidants in a chic "hut" in the Allgäu Alps, no doubt plotting and planning for Germany's World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia, Northern Ireland, and Luxembourg.

In a surprising move, Nagelsmann has expressed his intention to wear the Germany jersey for motivational reasons during the World Cup qualifiers. Kimmich, too, believes he can contribute more of his strengths in defensive midfield, a role he is now set to take on.

As the qualifiers approach, the German team will be looking to put their disappointing performances behind them and focus on dominating the pitch and securing their spot in the World Cup.
