World Leader President Xi engages with international figures during the SCO Summit held in Tianjin.
China Hosts Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit
President Xi Jinping of China has welcomed leaders from more than 20 countries and international organisations to Tianjin for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. Under China's chairmanship, discussions at the summit are set to focus on trade, regional security, connectivity, and cooperation on global challenges.
Xi started the summit by meeting with Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, calling for closer political trust and deeper cooperation. He emphasised the importance of aligning China's Belt and Road Initiative with Egypt's Vision 2030. Xi also met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and reiterated China's commitment to multilateralism and global development initiatives.
In another significant meeting, Xi reaffirmed the importance of the long-standing pauk-phaw friendship between China and Myanmar. He pledged support for Myanmar in safeguarding sovereignty and rebuilding after an earthquake. Xi also met with Myanmar's Acting President Min Aung Hlaing and reiterated these sentiments.
Xi Jinping also held talks with Nepali Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli, calling for deeper strategic trust, stronger connectivity, and expanded cooperation in various sectors, including industry, agriculture, new energy, education, and security. Xi Jinping and Nepali Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli also discussed expanding cooperation in education.
The SCO Summit also provided an opportunity for Xi to meet with Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. He stressed the importance of maintaining good-neighbourly relations and mutual support, encouraging closer alignment of development strategies and stronger energy cooperation.
Xi Jinping also met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the "Diamond Hexagon" framework and the Fish and Rice Corridor. Xi reaffirmed the strength of China-Cambodia relations, emphasising the importance of these initiatives.
While there is no information available about which other world leaders President Xi Jinping will meet in Tianjin in the future, the SCO Summit is expected to be a significant event in strengthening international cooperation and addressing global challenges.
