WPP's Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Scott, to Step Down by Year's End

In a significant shift for advertising giant WPP, Cindy Rose has been announced as the company's next CEO, effective from July. This announcement comes after Mark Read's decision to step down as CEO, effective September 1, following a seven-year tenure and a three-decade career with the company.

Cindy Rose, who has been Microsoft's chief operating officer for global enterprise since 2023, has also been a WPP board member since 2018. Her passion for WPP dates back more than 15 years, making her a mega-fan of the company. In her first address to WPP's staff, recorded in a video obtained by ADWEEK, Rose expressed her enthusiasm for working with them to write WPP's next chapter.

Andrew Scott, who has been WPP's COO since 2018 and a board member since 2023, will work with Rose as he transitions out of the company. Scott played a crucial role in several key transactions, including the sale of 60% of Kantar to Bain Capital and the acquisitions of Satalia and InfoSum. He was also involved in the sale of FGS Global to KKR.

Scott's contributions to WPP extend beyond strategic acquisitions. He supported other senior executives and aided in the execution of strategy. In recognition of his service, Scott will become a senior advisor after his retirement at the end of 2023. Mark Read will continue as an advisor to support the transition through the end of the year.
