WSOP Enforces Ban on Electronic Devices, Introduces WSOP+ App for Event Registration
Get Ready for a Phone-Free WSOP Final Tables Starting 2025!
Unlock the new era of World Series of Poker (WSOP) with a strict ban on all electronic devices during the final three rounds of any event starting this summer. Yep, your smartphones and gadgets must take a backseat during those nail-biting moments!
It's a move that's gonna garner cheers from fans but there's more good news on the cards from the heart of Vegas. Sick of enduring never-ending queues to get into WSOP events? Worry not, your poker-playing dreams won't be held hostage by long lines anymore.
Stand by for the 2025 WSOP, it's just around the corner! Last year's nastiness at the final table of the WSOP Main Event made headlines when winner Jonathan Tamayo had Joe McKeehen and Dominik Nitsche dishing advice from a GTO solver.
The situation stirred quite the stir amongst the live poker community, leading to calls for change. And change is what the WSOP Paradise event, held in December 2023, implemented. A new rule was added to the rulebook stating that:
"Players and spectators are not allowed to use charts, apps, or any other form of electronic assistance in the tournament room... [Rule citation]*
"...Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a penalty up to disqualification for the player and removal from the tournament room for the spectator."
Phones will still be allowed during the early rounds, as long as they are on silent. But feast your eyes on the honey-combed tournament room when it's down to the final three rounds, or any feature or live-streamed table - all devices must be tucked away.
players who don’t comply will face "penalties up to and including disqualification."
Rule-wise, the handbook now reads:
"No devices will be allowed to be used in the tournament room during these late stages of streamed events and no coaching from anywhere within the tournament room will be allowed; this includes viewing of the tournament stream and usage of any electronic assistance.
"Failure to adhere to this rule will result in a penalty for the participant and removal from the tournament room for the spectator."
Looking Ahead: WSOP+ Mandatory for all WSOP Events
On a brighter note, the WSOP+ app launches this year to make the event series a breeze. From now on, all players must sign up for the WSOP+ app and apply for a Caesars Rewards Loyalty Card to participate in the events this summer.
Welcome to the future of the WSOP! Players can now pre-register for events, evading the dreaded lines and long wait times. Stay updated with real-time alerts about seat availability.
And there's more! Every info you could ever want about upcoming events will be readily available on the WSOP+ app, along with current chip counts, prize pools, and results.
Jack Effel, Senior Vice President of Poker Operations and World Series of Poker at Caesars Entertainment, shared:
"With WSOP+ online for the next WSOP in Las Vegas, players can expect a boost in their event experience. The app's features are sure to benefit participants, as they steer clear of queues and have crucial event info at their fingertips."
Ty Stewart, CEO of the World Series of Poker, chipped in:
"The WSOP+ app is poised to upgrade the WSOP experience for our poker community. Players can conveniently register for their favorite tournaments in advance, and access all vital, easy-to-digest event information on the go!"
The WSOP+ app is compatible with iOS and Android devices. Simply show your government-issued ID for verifications in person at the Paris Las Vegas for registration.
