Würzburger parties ordered to foot the bill for Karlsruhe's subterranean parking facility

In a recent turn of events, resident of Würzburg, Klaus Noesner, found himself in a parking predicament in Karlsruhe. The culprit? A misunderstanding with parking reservations in a garage at Karlsruhe Central Station.

Upon returning from Paris, Noesner encountered a display at the garage exit demanding payment within 48 hours for exceeding a parking reservation. The company responsible for issuing the invoice was APCOA. However, two weeks later, a bill from Karlsruher Fächer GmbH arrived, demanding 62.50 euros as a parking fee and an additional 20 euro late fee.

The couple, Noesner and his partner, concluded they had exceeded the booked time by three hours. Yet, they could not find a bill in their customer profile. In an attempt to clarify the amount and payment location, Noesner called Karlsruhe but was unable to get a response.

The issue stemmed from Noesner parking on the upper level outside the reserved area of garage P1, unaware that bookings are only valid on the lower level in the reserved area of the garage. This oversight led to the additional charges, according to the displayed tariffs.

It is important to note that a spot in the reserved area is held free by the booking, and if the vehicle is parked on the upper level, the bill cannot be waived. Moreover, upon booking, the license plate must be entered correctly to associate the vehicle with the booking. If the license plate is entered incorrectly, the vehicle may not be recognized by the license plate recognition system.

Noesner, after some correspondence, paid the parking fees in full. However, he did not pay the late fee, feeling it was due to his mistake. The website parken-in-karlsruhe.de provides information about the underground garage P1 at Karlsruhe Central Station.

This incident serves as a reminder for travellers to be vigilant and double-check their parking reservations, especially when parking in unfamiliar garages.
