Young defendant moved to correctional facility
A memorial event for the late Police Officer Simon Bohr is set to take place on Friday at 2:00 PM. The remembrance event, organised by the Saarland state government, will honour the life and service of Officer Bohr who was tragically shot dead on August 21 in Voelklingen.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Officer Bohr's death is being led by the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office. The suspect, an 18-year-old individual, is currently being held in a detention facility, having been transferred from a hospital two weeks after the incident.
The suspect is under investigation for two attempted murders, suspected murder, and suspected severe robbery. It has been confirmed that the suspect wrested a service weapon from Officer Bohr and fired six shots, resulting in the police officer's death. The suspect is reported to be responsive and will continue to receive medical treatment in prison.
The 18-year-old suspect was also injured during the incident and received treatment in the hospital. Thankfully, the suspect is no longer in critical condition.
Minister President Anke Rehlinger, Saarland Interior Minister Reinhold Jost (both SPD), and Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) are expected to attend the memorial event. The public is invited to pay their respects to Officer Bohr and show support for his family and the Saarland police force.
Officer Simon Bohr was laid to rest in his hometown of Saarlouis last Saturday. The community continues to mourn his loss and remember his service to the community.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and the public prosecutor's office is working diligently to gather all the facts and bring those responsible to justice. Our thoughts remain with Officer Bohr's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
