Young diplomats conclude sojourns, educational endeavors overseas
The Taiwanese youth ambassadors recently concluded a 12-day visit to the Marshall Islands, Hawaii, and Guam as part of an annual government-funded youth ambassadorship program.
The group of 40 ambassadors, aged 18 to 35, began their journey in the Marshall Islands, where they were warmly received by Kaneko and Minister of Education, Sports and Training Gerald Zackios. During their stay, they attended a youth climate forum at the College of the Marshall Islands and exchanged ideas on climate change, sustainable development, and education with local students.
The ambassadors also visited Marshall Islands High School and Laura High School, fostering cross-cultural understanding and friendship.
Following their time in the Marshall Islands, the ambassadors embarked on a journey to Hawaii, where they were taught about the meaning of "Aloha Spirit," more than just a friendly greeting, but a philosophy of treating everyone with care, compassion, and respect. They attended a seminar at the East-West Center and held a "Taiwan Culture Night" at Ala Moana Center in Honolulu.
In Guam, the ambassadors met with several key officials, including the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Delegate to the US House of Representatives, and the Guam Legislative Speaker. They also engaged in people-to-people exchanges with local young people, met with academics at think tanks, and held Taiwanese cultural performance events.
The local audiences warmly received these cultural events, further strengthening the ties between Taiwan and the host nations.
The youth ambassadors concluded their trip with a final Taiwan Culture Night in Guam on Saturday. During their 2023 tour, they also attended a youth forum on Indo-Pacific Strategy at the University of Guam, where they shared their insights and experiences.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the international youth ambassadors have successfully completed their visit to the Marshall Islands, Hawaii, and Guam last month. The programme aims to promote mutual understanding and friendship among young people from different nations, fostering a more peaceful and harmonious world.
