Young inhabitants of Romania can now potentially partake in a four-month military training program, as proposed by a recent draft legislation.
In a recent interview with Euronews Romania, the minister announced that new rounds of the MOBEX mobilization exercise will take place in September and October. According to the minister, the exercises will reunite voluntary reservists in several counties, including Sibiu and Mureș in September, and Bucharest and Ilfov in October.
During the interview, the minister clarified that women can also volunteer for the army, and some volunteers may choose to stay and become professional soldiers after the four-month training. The purpose of the MOBEX exercise is to evaluate the volunteers, and if approved, they can enter the operational reserve of the Romanian Army.
The minister also emphasized that no one is being called to the army, and the army is not taking anyone by force into the military. Volunteers must know which territorial commissariat to report to if needed. If approved, young people aged 18 to 35 can volunteer for a period of four months.
Volunteers will receive a monthly payment of RON 2,000-3,000 (EUR 400-600) during their training period. The minister did not specify any conditions for volunteers to become professional soldiers. The Romanian Army needs to know where to find the operational reserve and their respective addresses.
It is worth noting that the MOBEX exercises take place periodically, and the most recent exercise took place in Teleorman, Giurgiu, and Olt in the spring of this year. The MOBEX exercises are not preparations for war but are designed to prepare the population for crises and strengthen the Romanian Army.
In addition to the MOBEX exercise, the minister also mentioned that Romania is planning to enact the Defense Law and the Law on Preparing the Population for Defense. These draft laws aim to further prepare the population for crises and strengthen the Romanian Army.
