The Ilse-Rufbus service, a popular on-demand bus network, is set to expand its reach to include the town of Pasewalk, filling a gap in the thinly populated regions of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. This expansion comes as a result of a proposal made by SPD politician Johannes Hecht, who narrowly missed winning in the Vorpommern-Greifswald elections.
In Pasewalk, doctors of various specialties have joined forces to link the Ilse-Rufbus service with their practice appointments. Patients can now book appointments, have the bus take them there, and request a return trip to their doorstep. The service, which operates without fixed schedules and can be ordered like a taxi, will be launched in places like Penkun, Strasburg, Ferdinandshof, and Loecknitz in October.
The county committee has released 3.3 million euros to expand the vehicles, software, and personnel for the Ilse-Rufbus network. This funding will run until 2028. While details about the introduction of autonomous bus lines were not provided, it is clear that the Ilse-Rufbus service is set to become even more advanced and efficient.
Initial figures from the Mecklenburg Lake District show a doubling of passengers compared to the previous year for on-demand bus services. However, critics suggest that for the Ilse-Rufbus to truly succeed, it should also be available in the evenings, on weekends, and in all suburbs.
The Ilse-Rufbus service is available weekdays between 8 am and 6 pm, subject to no nearby connections. As the service continues to grow and evolve, it is clear that it is becoming an essential part of the transportation infrastructure in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Ilse-Rufbus service and its continued expansion.
