Zandvoort circuit's traditional approach shocks Steiner

In the latest episode of the F1 Today Podcast by GPblog, Team Principal of Haas F1, Guenther Steiner, expressed his admiration for the Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort.

Steiner, in particular, highlighted an incredible overtaking maneuver by Charles Leclerc during last year's race, which he described as a 'F4' maneuver. The specifics of this maneuver were not detailed in the discussion.

While Steiner did acknowledge concerns about the track's size and age, he commended the job done to keep it on the Formula 1 calendar. He praised the circuit's narrow, high-speed nature, making it a challenging yet exciting race for the drivers.

The Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort was the penultimate edition last year (at least for now), and its future remains uncertain. However, Steiner noted that the Netherlands has a high number of bicycles, which aids logistics for the race.

Meanwhile, the discussion about Max Verstappen's career plans was also a focus of the podcast. Verstappen, a Dutch driver, has been a key figure in the Dutch Grand Prix, and his plans within Formula 1 were a topic of interest.

Interestingly, the Dutch Grand Prix was mentioned in relation to an incident involving Leclerc. The 'F4' maneuver ended Leclerc's Dutch Grand Prix, adding an extra layer of excitement to the race.

It's worth noting that Prince Bernhard van Oranje-Nassau, cousin of King Willem-Alexander and co-owner of the Zandvoort circuit, played a key role in stabilizing ownership and supporting the return of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. He attempted to mediate concerns about the track's suitability for the F1 calendar.

Despite the concerns, Steiner did not indicate that there is more criticism of Zandvoort than of any other racetrack. His comments suggest that the Dutch Grand Prix offers a unique and thrilling experience for both drivers and spectators.
