Zelenskyy Expresses on Putin Encounter: He Might Visit Kiev

In a continuation of the ongoing standoff between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the proposed summit to negotiate a ceasefire remains uncertain.

During the economic forum in Vladivostok, Putin once again expressed doubts about the purpose of the talks, further questioning Zelensky's legitimacy. This is not the first time Putin has voiced his reservations about the proposed negotiations, as he has maintained a position of doubt regarding their necessity.

In contrast, Zelensky has repeatedly called for a meeting with Putin to discuss a ceasefire. However, the Ukrainian President has rejected Moscow as a potential venue for the meeting, suggesting instead that Putin could come to Kyiv.

The proposed summit, intended to negotiate a ceasefire, has attracted the interest of several neutral countries. At least seven countries have offered to host the summit, including Turkey and three Gulf states. French President Emmanuel Macron proposed Switzerland, specifically Geneva, as a potential venue for a meeting between Zelensky and Putin.

Despite these proposals, Putin has insisted on holding the meeting only in his capital, Moscow. However, Zelensky cannot travel to Moscow while Ukraine is under daily attack. Putin believes that talks in Moscow would enhance the Kremlin's negotiation position, as they perceive themselves as having an advantage on the front lines.

Putin's statements during the economic forum in Vladivostok further underscore his skepticism towards the proposed negotiations. On Wednesday, he expressed that Zelensky could travel to Moscow if there is a possibility of a favorable outcome. Yet, on Friday, he reiterated his doubts about the necessity of talks.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been ongoing for more than three and a half years, and the stalemate in talks between Putin and Zelensky continues to fuel tension between the two nations. As the international community watches, the search for a suitable and agreeable venue for the proposed summit continues.
