Zimbabwe shatters team record, bowls out Sri Lanka for 80 in the second T20 match
Zimbabwe Sets New Record in Men's T20I Cricket, Bowls Out Sri Lanka for 80
In a historic moment for Zimbabwean cricket, the team managed to bowl out a Full Member nation for the lowest total ever in men's T20I cricket on September 6, 2025, in Harare. Sri Lanka, the unfortunate victims, were all out for just 80 runs.
This achievement surpasses the previous lowest total by a Full Member against Zimbabwe, which was Pakistan's 99 runs in April 2021. The record for the lowest team score against Zimbabwe before September 6, 2025, was held by Nepal with a score of 80 runs.
The match began on a promising note for Sri Lanka, with a solid opening partnership. However, the tide turned in the 10th over when Regis Chakabva took a crucial catch, marking the start of a dramatic collapse.
Credit for this remarkable feat goes to the standout bowling performance by Sean Williams, known as Raza, who took 3 wickets for just 11 runs in his 4 overs. Tendai Chatara and Brad Evans also played significant roles, with Evans taking 3 wickets for 15 runs in 2.4 overs.
This is not the first time Zimbabwe has bowled out a Full Member nation for a low total. On July 6, 2024, in the same venue, Sri Lanka were all out for 102. The Gambia (54), Mozambique (56), Rwanda (71), and Canada (75) are the other Full Member nations that Zimbabwe have bowled out for lower scores in T20I cricket.
Interestingly, this is the second time Zimbabwe have bowled out Sri Lanka for less than 100 in men's T20I cricket. The previous lowest total was Pakistan's 99 at the same venue in April 2021.
In the final over of the Sri Lankan innings, Maheesh Theekshana was dismissed, with Raza completing the catch. Dushan Hemantha was run out before the final wicket fell.
This victory is a testament to the improving strength of Zimbabwean cricket and a significant milestone in the team's T20I history.
